4. June 2024Marcussen & Søn Orgelbyggeri A/S secures the future with new ownership
1. July 2024Marcussen & Søn Orgelbyggeri received the 2024 Carpentry Prize. The award ceremony took place at Moltkes Palæ in Copenhagen on 13 June.
The Copenhagen Carpenters' Guild's Carpentry Prize recognises sublime wood craftsmanship. Since 2018, the Cabinetmakers' Prize has been awarded with funds provided by the Kirsten and Freddy Johansen Foundation.
In the Copenhagen Carpenters' Guild's motivation for the choice, it reads, among other things:
"This year, we have chosen to award the prize to the organ building company Marcussen & Søn in Aabenraa for a unique and excellent organ building project in Rødovre Church. With this choice, the award committee has reached out to a noble branch of the joinery trade. We are dealing here with a profession that begins as part of the joinery training, but during the course of the training, the professionalism turns towards the specialised, refined and traditional profession - organ building. For seven generations, Marcussen & Søn Orgelbyggeri has dedicated itself to the noble craft of organ building, and with their high level of professionalism, they have also often influenced design. With this year's joinery award, the Copenhagen Carpenters' Guild also supports a joinery craft that we must be careful not to forget.
The Copenhagen Carpenters' Guild is delighted to present the award to one of the foremost practitioners of this traditional and highly specialised craft.
Congratulations!
